How to Help

Donors provide awards for
many area graduates.

Utica Dollars for Scholars seeks and distributes awards to students from Proctor and OTHER LOCAL High Schools Oneida and Herkimer counties. The specific awards and application forms are sent to eligible Guidance Offices or are available on this web site. The qualifications for consideration are described in the SPECIAL AWARDS FLYER; and in most cases, the standard UDFS Application Form is required. Some have their own application, such as the Leonard Capuana Scholarship and the President’s Student Service Award.

EXAMPLE OF SPECIAL AWARD

Credit Bureau of Utica Scholarship
An annual $1,000 award to a student successfully graduating from an Oneida or Herkimer County high school; who will be attending an accredited higher education institution the next year that is also located in Oneida or Herkimer counties. The minimum qualifications are a student demonstrating an interest in Business or Health Care as their initial career, with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent). Having employment, volunteer or community service in their major field of interest is welcome, but not required for award consideration. Use the Utica Dollars for Scholars application form and process. The Credit Bureau Scholarship was established in 2004 by the Credit Bureau of Utica through an endowment at the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties.

For information on other awards, for high school seniors from Proctor and other area high schools, read the 2008 Awards Listing.

Read all applications and guidelines carefully. Deadlines vary and are unforgiving.

The UDFS ‘Scholarship Application’ can be used for several awards.

‘Expected 2007 Awards’ ’ describes special requirements for some UDFS grants.

The ‘Leonard Capuana Award’ ’has its own application.

Check out the The Rome College Foundation for other local awards.

The Internet is a great place to research scholarship opportunities. Many web sites are hosted by not-for-profit organizations and government, and provide free information on award opportunities as well as help in applying for financial aid. The Scholarship Page on Internet Resources for Nonprofits provides brief summaries and links to some of these resources.
